S'porean man mortgages Sengkang EC for JB holiday home, but completion delayed since 2018
An estimated one-third of the buyers at the development are Singaporean.
According to Zhu, it was originally scheduled that he would get the keys to his condo in 2018.
When the pandemic broke, he was informed that it would be delayed to 2022.
However, more delays continued after that, and Zhu still has not received the keys today.
Zhu crosses the border nearly every week to check on the construction, hoping that he will be able to see his holiday home completed soon.
A photo Zhu shared withShin Min shows a unit with flooring laid out, but missing doors and windows, while another photo shows construction materials and equipment lying around the site.

Zhu said that these years of waiting have been frustrating, and his wife has gradually lost hope.
They are not alone in feeling this way.
In 2023, around a 100 homeowners of the estate, Malaysians and Singaporeans included, gathered in front of the construction site to demand an explanation from the developers and seek help from local MPs,8worldthat the project has been taken over by a new developer from China whopromised the homeowners that they would be able to get their keys in December 2027.
A representative from the new developer estimated that the project was currently about 60 per cent complete.
At a meeting with around 30 homeowners, the representative also said that the new contractor will be confirmed in September and will start work on Oct. 20.
Zhu, however, is cautious.
He pointed out toShin Minthat the new developer has only made verbal promises so far, and the homeowners can't help but worry that this plan could change.
"Of course we are happy about that there is progress, but we still have to see it for ourselves," Zhu said. "It'll be best if we could see signs of construction starting by the end of this year, such as scaffolding and cranes. Otherwise, some homeowners might petition again."
In 2016, a Singaporean bought his dream holiday home in Johor Bahru, which was supposed to be a dual-key condo on the 13th floor that boasted a sea view.
Now, nearly 10 years later, that dream remains unrealised, as the property is still under construction.
Holiday home
The man, a 65-year-old surnamed Zhu, toldthat he and his wife had been wanting to buy a flat in Johor to stay in while on holiday.
His wife had also liked the photos of the property on the flyer.
Located in the Permas Jaya suburb, the dual-key condo was designed to have a studio apartment and a two-bedroom unit side by side.
Pointing out its location near the sea, Zhu said that he was very happy when he bought it at the time.
To pay for the condo, which cost RM1 million (about S$305,000), Zhu took out a mortgage of over S$300,000 on his executive condo in Sengkang.
