quote originally posted by Nice_Guy: Dear Esteemed Admins/Mods/Webmaster, One of the most rampant occurrence/eyesore in AB forums (whether intentional or otherwise), is the never-ending flashing of yellow cards. While many regular members show tremendous respect towards stipulated rules & regulations, often there are 'over-enthusiastic' or 'careless' members who will catch/spread the bug. The stubborn bug may incubate in the individual and relapse from time to time. Hereby, may I recommend a few steps to contain this bug? 1. Locking of threads This function is very useful to prevent instances of blind replies. At the first instance a 'blind' member is sighted, the thread should be locked immediately to prevent domino effect. This process can be administered manually by admins/mods or thread starter himself. Forum members who chanced upon the blind replies can hit report button to alert the authorities. To deter old thread replies, perhaps after a certain number of days deemed fit, threads in certain forums should be automatically locked by the system. Not sure currently if spelled out anywhere how many days considered old thread. This may be applicable to main football forums like EPL, UEFA, etc. but may be considered harmless i.e. Gossip Corner, DPGSB, etc. 2. Operant Conditioning Operant conditioning is a method of learning that occurs through rewards and punishments for behavior. At the moment, there's already a system in place to reward contributing members with titles and stars while offending members be counter-rewarded with cards and suspensions. However, if the current punitive steps is not deemed effective enough to effect a behavioural change, perhaps a review of its intensity is necessary. Otherwise, this becomes a learned operant conditioning too and the vicious cycle will repeat itself over and over again. We can ask ourselves to consider what's the best deterrent, perhaps to hit where it hurts the most; an aggravated extensive ban (weeks/months), demotion from current ranks or even a permanent ban if all methods fail. Just my 2 cents' worth. Thank you for your time and consideration. Regards, Nice_Guy |
Leader, your suggestion is good. However, many repeating members just love to collect yellow cards like nobody's business. They just want to chase for the most-collected-yellow-card award. To lock threads, TS needs to co-operate fully. Unfortunately, most TS don't bother about locking threads. Some even misuse the locking function when picks are losing to prevent flame (which flaming will not take place at all even if he/she doesn't lock his/her thread). If the current automatic thread locking is 5 days, i agree on the proposal to minimise it to 3 days. To bump a 3 days old thread is just god damn stupid when it's already been pushed to the 3rd or 4th page.
--- FAQ by Tipster Legend™.
Q1: What's contribution? A1: Only posting of tips is counted as. Other forms of contribution is not accepted, and are counted as void and null.
Q2: How to turn forum members into coward? A2: You block them! When they've no way to defend themselves, they're coward!
Q3: How to win a debate/argument? A3: There are many ways in fact. You can assemble keyboard warriors or SJWs to defend yourself. You can even create multiple dupes to 'blind' the members that you in fact have a lot of defenders.
Q4: I won 1 and lost 4 matches. What should I do? A4: You're encouraged to celebrate your win and ignore the 4 losses. Nobody will harp on it even if you lost overall. Make sure you celebrate like wild!
Q5: What's the worst, most useless and meaningless suggestion did a forum ever receive? A5: Disable post replies. WIN!
